Douglas Crockford is one of the foremost educators on the JavaScript Programming language. Watch the following playlist (Its about about 14 hours) 2-3 times to learn about the language, then look up other videos of him.

I do recommend buying his book JavaScript the Good Parts, but in this series of videos he explains everything in the books fully. Its a long lecture but it has humor in it to keep it from being to mind numbing. Just sit and listen. Its going to take a while but this is basically a fast track into writing the language.
